An Experiment in Gratitude

Bonjour, mi petit amour! (Translation: hello, my petite amor.)

This blog has been a long time coming. “What is it?” you may ask. “Why did Allie make me click this link?” you may be wondering. “Do I get a prize if I read this whole post?” you may be hoping.

What is the “10thousandproject”?

An experiment. A challenge. There are no definites or “for always” rules, but at the beginning this will be a personal record of ten things a day. Ten things I’m thankful for, inspired by, blessed by, or realizing the significance of. Until I get to 10,000. Ten thousand snapshots of gratitude. From the earth shattering revelations to minuscule details. Hopefully this will turn into a place where other people share their lists, and learn to focus on the outpouring of goodness that really is around them.

Where’dya get the idea?

During Pentecost. (I know, it was a while ago.) I had hit a wall with my faith, and while worshiping to the song “10,000 Reasons” by Matt Redman, I realized that my faith was subsisting on God meeting my expectations, and me waiting on God to say something to me. If this religion is supposed to be a relationship, two parties should be active. I should be talking back.

It’s nice when there’s a clean breaking point, and you can start building up. That hadn’t happened yet. But it was a good start.

So this is me getting around to it. An experiment of me learning to speak up to my Creator: being thankful for the world I live in, the creation and inspiration around me, and the people and interactions that strike me. Even in the tiniest ways.

  1. I love this idea!! I can’t wait to watch your list grow. I’ll add this new adventure of yours to my list of things to be thankful for. 🙂
